Softball Field of the Year
Winner: Bryan Parks and
Recreation Department, Sam Paradowski, Athletic Field Foreman
The Bryan Regional Athletic Complex
softball fields were dedicated March 27, 1987. The softball
complex includes four fields, concession stand, playground,
concrete parking lot, restrooms,
officials changing room and
maintenance shop. The complex was constructed utilizing some of
the highest standards at the time and remain four of the finest
softball fields in the state.
The heavy clay soils native to this
post oak savannah area of the state are dominant throughout the
complex. To counteract these poor draining soils, the entire
field portion of the complex is contoured to provide positive
sheet flow drainage. The draining is also improved by a pump
assisted sub-surface drainage system, which allows quick
re-entry onto the field. All fields have skinned infields and
Common Bermuda outfields. The field fencing incorporates 9 gauge
chain link set in an 18’ wide concrete mow strip.
Three seasons are played annually at
the complex. These seasons incorporate 10 months of the year.
Each field hosts over 500 games per year. The complex has hosted
numerous regional, state, and national tournaments over the
years. Grading of the complex by these tournament players and
officials has consistently been excellent. After 16 years of
operation, the complex’s amenities are still mostly state of art
and have served the community well.
