In-depth knowledge of the principals and practices of landscape architecture, construction techniques, irrigation systems, civil engineering, and the knowledge to combine them into an aesthetically coordinated and finished product. Knowledge of basic architectural and structural engineering principles and methods. Knowledge specific to trail system design and on-street bicycle routes is desirable. Effective oral and written communication skills. Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, or related field, plus three (3) years experience in Landscape Architecture or related field involving the design, construction management, and project management of major park and recreation facility construction. Any work-related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above listed Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements. SUMMARY OF POSITION:  To coordinate and conduct work required to install and maintain irrigation systems at city parks and other grounds;  participate in a variety of manual labor tasks appropriate to irrigation system installations and maintenance; to perform maintenance, landscaping and construction tasks related to grounds and athletic field management; and to assist supervisory personnel with additional related tasks. 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Perform manual labor and equipment operations related to the installation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of irrigation systems in athletic fields, including restrooms, drinking fountains, city park facilities, brick and cement structures, medians, and walkways.  Diagnose and fix various plumbing and electrical problems related to irrigation systems.  Perform preventative maintenance on equipment. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  High School graduation, or its equivalent.  Specialized training in irrigation systems, electrical components, and/or plumbing systems.  Three (3) years experience in irrigation systems installation and repair or a related field.  Possession of, or ability to obtain, an irrigation license from the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality within 12 months of employment.  Criminal background check, driving record and drug testing is required.

Scope:

Primary Responsibilities:

Creates the weekly schedule of grounds crew personnel and directs them in the day-to-day needs of the course.
Must have the ability to identify and trouble shoot agronomic problems that may occur on the golf course.
Must be fully capable of application equipment calibration and operation within the first six months.
Training of new maintenance personnel.
Assists in the Human Resources functions of the maintenance department by controlling turnover, motivating employees, focusing on employee development and retention and participating in regular employee meetings.
Leads monthly safety meetings on various topics.
Provides a professional image at all times through appearance and dress.
Follows company policies and procedures and is able to effectively communicate them to subordinates.
Implements and evaluates fertilizer/pesticide programs.
Evaluates and assesses equipment management/operation/set up.
Follows up on daily course set up to assure course meets playing standards set by EAGL and USGA.

Note: Other duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
